So thrilled to have "Strangler Fig" featured in @innerworlds.bsky.social Issue 8!
innerworlds.bsky.social
💚💫 Issue Eight has landed! 💫💚

This one includes a larger-than-usual number of ghosts and doubles, and the usual dizzying range of emotions and experiences.

If you're ready for a rollercoaster ride through our inner lives, check out the issue now: inner-worlds.ghost.io/issue-eight-...

#SFF #Horror
Inner Worlds cover with acid green masthead and artwork showing a part of a Black person's face in dark blue with a glitchy texture, surrounded by flame like shapes like heatvision hotspots, with green and yellow edges and bright scarlet centres. The person's gaze is very intense, and seems hurt, wary, angry.

"I was once on a plane that suffered a monumental loss."

Folks, you aren't prepared for this new @whitneycollins.bsky.social story--perfectly written, utterly strange, incredibly compelling. We are so damn excited (and lucky) to share "Truth of Consequences" this week on hex! An absolute wonder! ✈️
Truth or Consequences by Whitney Collins
I was once on a plane that suffered a monumental loss. High above a green and turgid swath of Florida, one of the aircraft’s giant white engines began smoldering like a marshmallow. This mechanical de...

The actual scientific study was trying to highlight advances in inhaler technology which do not use HFAs, a greenhouse gas. But it's easier to get clicks by telling people "the libs" want to ban inhalers.
katharinetyndall.bsky.social
This is clear anti-climate ragebait by a Sinclair Broadcasting-owned local media outlet. The actual scientific article does not recommend lowering inhaler use at all. This is right wing media trying to tell you those evil climate activists want your kids to suffocate.

As somebody with asthma who uses inhalers - SHUT THE FUCK UP. THIS ARTICLE IS SHAMING PEOPLE WITH A CHRONIC CONDITION.

"Significantly" My ass. You know what else does? AI Data centers - corporations - cows - asphalt - THOUSANDS OF OTHERS THINGS THAT ARE NOT MEDICINE.

Fuck you - fuck you again.

My TBR list right now:

The Trumpets of Jericho by Unica Zürn

This won't mean much to most of y'all but I got a draconic visage AND an imbued heart this weekend. Best weekend of my gaming life by far.

#bookreview no. 21: The Empusium by Olga Tokarczuk. Rich as moss and heavy as mountain fog. This is a contender for the best book I've read this year. A queer, historical, mythological eco-horror set in the Silesian mountains. There was so much incredible detail in this work, I will have to re-read.

"...Thilo claimed that a landscape is capable of killing a person. That it has immense strength, because it is a concentration of various energies, the culmination of geometry. And this happens here too, in Görbersdorf, once a year the landscape takes its sacrifice and kills a man."
The Empusium, A Health Resort Horror Story by Olga Tokarczuk. Blue Fitzcarraldo Editions book against a black background.

Also it seems like a revamp of the whole 2000s da Vinci Code fad but who am I to judge

As someone who did natural sciences I never got the whole dark academia thing. There's no way to romanticize spending 8 hours a day doing a meta-analysis on soil macrofauna.

Getting bullied for your dietary choice by adults in a restaurant in 2025 is pretty typical for rural Germany though so we just laughed it off and ate a really mid falafel somewhere else. Overall, probably wouldn't go back but the beach was cute
katharinetyndall.bsky.social
We actually found one place which listed 3 vegan options on their online menu so we went even though it was a schnitzel restaurant. In the restaurant their menu had changed and there was nothing vegan. We asked the waiter anyway and he basically laughed at us and two other customers joined in.
katharinetyndall.bsky.social
Went to Warnemünde yesterday which is like a kitchy German coastal town. It was beautiful and cute in a stuck-in-2005 way. Only shitty thing was there were absolutely no vegan options in town other than like, fries
katharinetyndall.bsky.social
Too bad we're vegans or they'd probably be geeked for like, sprats

no no the publishing industry is doing fine, why do you ask
A screenshot from Publisher's Lunch:
Jennifer L. Armentrout and Hellmann's
In a promotion designed for BookTok enjoyment, Jennifer L. Armentrout’s just-published THE PRIMAL OF BLOOD AND BONE is available in a special, limited-edition "garlic-scented copy, infused with Hellmann’s Garlic Aioli to create a one-of-a-kind, Craven-proof book." They explain: "This exclusive edition is printed with garlic-infused ink, designed to ward off Armentrout’s bloodthirsty monsters, the Craven. While humans may dread garlic breath, Hellmann’s has cleverly transformed this social faux pas into an unexpected – and delicious – form of supernatural protection."

My most useful college job was being a transcriber at the speech and hearing lab. I had to listen to audio tapes of speech experiments and transcribe every word as quickly as possible. I can like, live transcribe every word in a two hour work meeting.

I'm sorry. I don't care how prestigious it is. If there's a 30$ application fee, I'm just not applying lmao
