AI provides us with misinformation in such a confident tone. The level of made-up detail is incredible. Who knew Helen Vendler was on such close terms with a ghost? #ai #poetrycommunity #writer

When I'm editing a manuscript, I can't bear to discard anything. I have a outtakes doc where I put everything I remove, in case I need any of it later. It's the writing equivalent of an overstuffed closet filled with past seasons' clothes. Am I alone in this? #writers #booksky

Alas, I haven’t finished Chernow’s excellent Mark Twain biography and the library wants that thousand-page tome back. Welp, the first 10th was good. #booksky

Doing research for a novel gave me the perfect reason to treat myself to a backstage tour at the Boston Opera House. #writers

I didn’t want The Republic of Salt to end, and I can’t wait for the third book in the series. @erewhonbooks.bsky.social

Every time I hear about a book ban, I think, behind this ban is someone who doesn’t want a kid to figure out who she is and what she believes in.

So happy to escape into an imaginary world today. #writers

Does anyone else rough out a scene first and then go back and fill in the details (precise dialogue, descriptions, etc.)? I go back over a scene several times, adding layers. For me it takes the pressure off having to sit and write a complete scene in one go. #writers #writing #authors

These short stories are beautifully crafted. Each one is a whole world. I particularly loved Calypso’s Guest by Andrew Sean Greer and Once Upon a Time at the Oakmont by P.A. Cornell. #authors #writers

I love the feeling of sitting down at my desk to start writing a new scene. What kind of trouble will my characters get themselves into today?

Can we create a subgenre for romantic adventures that take place in a fantasy setting inspired by a real historical time and place but have no actual magic in the plot and where the writing has a slightly literary bent? Also with a quest to find a lost treasure? Asking for a friend.

What do I do when I don’t feel like writing? (1) I give myself permission to write a page or two of stream-of-consciousness ideas about the scene I should be working on. It can be terrible. I might not use it later. Often, though, a bit of it is useful another day. (2) I read.
