Thanks, Melissa! I completely agree. We controlled for baseline BMI (measured at the same time as social connections) to address reverse causation. It would be really interesting to explore the bidirectional relationship further with cross-lagged panel models!

2/2 Findings 🔎

Stronger peer connections = flatter trajectories 📉
Stronger family ties = steeper trajectories 📈

This shows the nuanced role of adolescent relationships in shaping long-term health 💡

My later PhD studies extend these findings to other life stages & adiposity outcomes ✍️

❗ New @marmotihe.bsky.social report:

🏡 Housing and health crises are inseparable.

💰 Poor quality housing costs the NHS £1.4bn/yr.

📈 Inequalities grow as affordable homes fall short.

🤝 Investors, housing associations, & govt must act together.

We also had a brilliant causal inference workshop by Soc-Bs own @martindanka.bsky.social 🫶🏼

Martin managed to maintain a light-hearted, entertaining atmosphere that made learning complex concepts simple 👏🏻

I know the entire cohort has benefited from your hard work!

A fantastic and engaging talk from @pwgtennant.bsky.social at our PhD workshop yesterday 👏🏻

Inspiring to see someone I’ve followed for a long time be so passionate about applying causal inference to social epidemiology 🤩

Excited to implement what I’ve learnt 🫡
