What a week! So grateful for the opportunity to speak at #Config2025 alongside @lukasoppermann.com. Our talk "Connecting code with craft" is now up on YouTube, check it out! youtu.be/6l6El4xqIZ4?...

I'm particularly proud of this last minute slide edition.

Hmm I don’t know off hand! Probably depends on what brand of speaker and what features are available in HA.

I’m still in limbo between Home Assistant and Homey Pro 😭 Homey is just so much easier to use and setup automations, but HA is way more open and flexible. I’ll be running both for awhile.

Virginia is now a painter with a studio in San Diego. I was very lucky to sit down with her for coffee before recording this episode, and it was so refreshing to discuss design today with someone in the industry 30 years ago! Check out her paintings on her website www.virginiahowlett.com

Today's Complementary episode is a very special one. We were joined by Virginia Howlett, Microsoft's first interface designer and author of Visual Interface Design for Windows. She's also known for the Verdana and Georgia typefaces! Highly recommend her book.

This is the way. Also their developers are pretty active in their Reddit community and they actually address feedback. I think it’s much better than MFP.

You need to read this thread. The whole thread. I have found ASCII somewhat intimidating but now I just want to play with these tools!

The public preview of Github Copilot CLI launched today, and if you install it, you'll be welcomed by little ASCII art welcome banner that I animated. Creating it ended up being great example of how vibe-coding has entered my toolbelt. Nerdy deets in 🧵...

Instead you have to awkwardly text your friends like oh heeey, I saw you watched Sicario, not to be creepy but like.. nice!

Publishers Weekly reviewed my book!

Very cool to see it's resonating with a major trade magazine outside our Big Brother bubble!

"It's a penetrating and persuasive take on why viewers continue to be enthralled." #BB27 #RHAP

As a designer I naturally love constraints. My goal is to try and respect the integrity of the original framing while still making things more functional. So if I can avoid a very costly change, I will!

I learned how to identify load bearing walls, but also about "shear" walls and how engineers make accommodations for that. We discussed the walls I'm considering removing or moving, and he made rec's based on cost efficiency. Anything is possible if you don't mind spending a lot 😂

Was really not expecting the sound effects 😄 👏

Design adjacent fields are so cool and exciting and fun. I hired a structural engineer to teach me about my house and it was maybe the greatest 2 hours of my life?
