David Bowie wanted to write a musical about criminals and satire in 18th century London! Apparently he especially loved Jack Shephard, who I wrote about in my book Dead Famous and who was the focus of one of our early episodes of BBC You’re Dead To Me

David Bowie's final project was a musical set in London
Shortly before his death, the star wrote dozens of notes for a musical set in 18th Century London.

The Romantics have been everywhere in pop culture this year (thinking Will Sharpe as Mr Darcy for a brief moment in Lena Dunham’s Too Much on Netflix)

Re: Bryon and Charli - she is very Byronic, isn’t she? Or rather, Byron is BRAT?

Charli XCX on Lord Byron - interesting! Excited to see this film (Erupcja)

USW have posted a response on their instagram which does little to explain why the wording of this email is openly discriminatory to Palestinians. It is shocking that anyone in Higher Education would think this is an appropriate email to send to a student.

I am very proud to say that I raised over £60,000 for the library (with more bids pending) and secured a record number of corporate sponsors for Glasgow Zine Fest. This money will go toward their valuable community arts programme for locals in Govanhill!

My time as Glasgow Zine Library's funding intern has come to an end! I am so grateful to @sgsah.bsky.social for offering paid internships for PGRs. The team at GZL were so welcoming and attentive to my development needs (I leave the role with a PVG, 420+ hours of experience, and SO MANY ZINES)

The instinct to hide what we’re actually reading - especially if it’s joyful and weird - says a lot about how high/low value gets assigned in academia. Interning at Glasgow Zine Library has taught me a lot about non-hierarchical publishing + fan culture, and has been such a great experience! (3/3)

Our reading habits reflect who we are, especially in academia, where what you read feels like a performance of how 'serious' or clever you are. FF is part of my research - I study queer adaptations + fan culture. Queering Harry Potter and reclaiming authorship feels especially urgent today. (2/3)

Someone at work asked what I was reading and I almost lied.

I’m a Jane Austen PhD student, so I felt like I should say something 18th century or academic. But I was reading a Harry Potter fanfic about gay werewolves. 🐺 (1/3)

In an age where walking is once again praised for its physical and mental benefits, #JaneAusten's fiction reminds us that these virtues are not new. Her characters have been walking for centuries.

I love chairing panels at academic conferences and I Have Thoughts about it!

I think it’s a really important service role AND you can create the conditions for everyone in the panel to have a good time AND it can be fun!

I had a brilliant time and was struck by just how generous those in our field are - constantly offering their time, resources, and words of encouragement to us PGRs. Thank you everyone for making the experience so enjoyable! #GlobalAusten250
