Feminist mama trying to be more professional at work. Tangata Tiriti wahine in a Ngāti Mahuta bubble #landback. Self-confessed science nerd. Only quiet when reading.
Love this! Must be something in the air tonight, my 13 year old said the same. Great end to a long and slightly shitty day.

Yesterday, we didn’t leave our suburb yet did all our food shopping, picked up meds, and then celebrated partner’s birthday in three different places in the sun before wandering home, running into neighbours and friends along the way. 15-minute cities for the win. #nzpol

I would say shop around. I swapped from Powershop recently and electricity bill drastically reduced. You may be able to negotiate better rates as a new user but it was a significant saving leaving them. I’d do your homework on the powerswitch website to make sure.

And don’t mean to parent bash - my experience is now dated. Been out of teaching profession for 12 years. Parents are probably much more familiar with NCEA now.

Was NCEA perfect? No.
Did it teach students critical thinking, that the value of knowledge is not memorising but being able to apply it to new contexts? Yes.
Parents could never (or could never be bothered to) “understand” NCEA and that’s always been the problem.

I am! Would quite like to go to bed. But clearly I must lie here forever.

Im rewatching Buffy with my 13 year old and Jenny was smoking.
The boys on the show are meh and the casual misogyny is more problematic with age. The Buffy girls are the best.

Rose’s chilli crisp is amazing!. Absolute addiction forming in our house. I’ve been known to hide it in the vegetable drawer of fridge where the other people I live with (partner and child) won’t look for it.

He was talking fiction not legal writing to be fair.

On Stephen King’s book “On writing” where he talks you through his writing process, one bit always stuck with me. He says if you need an adverb, you’ve chosen the wrong verb. Find a better verb is his advice.
