Oregon State University graduate students are currently on strike fighting for livable wages and a fair contract length - please spread the word!

In mediation on November 11, OSU's bargaining team did not move towards CGE's proposals regarding salary or contract term. They continue to insist on 4 year contract cycles with no partial reopeners and only a 10% raise to the minimum now, followed by another 2% in years 3 and 4. Their proposed contract locks incoming graduates into unsustainable conditions and cripples their bargaining power. After a year of openly combative negotiations, OSU has made it abundantly clear that their priority is not the pursuit of knowledge, but rather the pursuit of money, even at the expense of their own dedicated, hard-working, and talented graduate employees. We cannot accept this. I’m visiting INSTAAR at CU Boulder for the next few weeks and oh man, I do miss living in place that gets real snow!
It’s a tough morning in America and it’s hard to see any positive sides to today but at least biking in the snow and hearing it hit the leaves as it falls is really peaceful.

Looks like my little office plant is finally deciding to give off a new leaf!! It’s been so much happier since I moved it to the window sill so 🤞 this is just the beginning!

I'm back home and re-acclimating to normal life after spending 5 weeks this summer at sea in Baffin Bay. We had a successful cruise and came home with lots of mud from the west Greenland Margin (and a whole group of newly appointed Bluenoses)
