maybe not quite what you’re looking for? but researchers have looked into similar in human-computer interaction (doi.org/10.1016/j.ch... and doi.org/10.1145/3411...) and games more specifically (doi.org/10.1145/3677...) - maybe also idle games (doi.org/10.1016/j.ij... and doi.org/10.1145/3311...).
