bc when we hear "was within the law" one outcome is to think, ok, we're protected by the law. but the other is oh, the law can change anytime. i think the second one happens more often but we tend to think it's the first one, which can lead to complacency and...ok, you got it.

specifically, but like people who don’t study this every day - like “within the law” means something different when you know what laws they passed and most people don’t know that. so not being pedantic to be a jerk, just trying to put more context)
January 28, 2026 at 2:01 PM
and double yes the point about within the law (except when they hot away with ignoring it), but when we say that we also have to reference all the laws they changed, also legally. like “within the law” kind of downplays some nefariousness until you realize they legally passed awful things (not YOU,

❤️and i’m super enjoying the convo i just try to lay low. but check the Nuremberg laws (before N was where they tried the criminals, it was where they passed this stuff). everything else i’d recommend is only in german but that’s a decent start!
but! it did work sometimes and worth the try!

in those laws, the ethnicity of jewishness overrode any right to citizenship at any point so conversion or no, jewish citizenship was illegal and papers were irrelevant
January 28, 2026 at 1:51 PM
arg really not tryna be an arse: birth citizenship here is legal till it stops. you’re forgetting the laws they passed legally revoking jews’ rights to citizenship

also def not trying to fight a huge account what am i thinking! so i’ll delete this stuff but if you want source material feel free to dm. source: studied in germany.
January 28, 2026 at 1:46 PM
no i see that’s your point. i’m just saying you’re incorrect. just like today citizenship papers/green cards are not inviolate.
January 28, 2026 at 1:44 PM
i would say, “which was not undone in that situation”. it was often undone, again even in cases where the conversion was sincere and generations in the past. but every case where it was not undone/discovered was good and lucky and worth it!
January 28, 2026 at 1:40 PM
ah no, that’s incorrect. also the law didn’t mean much when they wanted it to not mean much.
January 28, 2026 at 1:36 PM
you’re not wrong that people tried to save people! and there were times it worked, but it also was extremely risky and usually didn’t work. which doesn’t mean don’t try, just, it seems like the story is incomplete if it’s left at fake papers. us citizenship papers are also no guarantee. 4/4

some jewish people were “aryanized” as well: special papers by the government saying they were honorary aryans, in exchange for services, usually for turning over other jewish people in hiding. when these honoraries were no longer useful their status was revoked and they went to kz’s. /3

ethnic jews who were born christian (ie families converted generation/s ago), and so their baptism papers were not faked and they literally went to church and didn’t know anything about judaism, were also taken - even if one parent was not jewish, even if they were blonde/blue-eyed. /2
January 28, 2026 at 1:29 PM
that didn’t always work. for a while some survived that way, but pretty quickly it stopped being accepted and the priests/pastors who helped were also persecuted.
relevant only because it’s not like people should think “oh see there was a solution”.

wouldn’t that be nice? but he dedicated books to reagan and was antiabortion and donated to republicans and stuff. even though i mean, starting over with a fresh government made up of teachers and stuff does sound pretty great!

this is the one - Taste Republic. it’s in the fresh pasta section, and it’s unbelievably good. they make linguine, fettuccine (regular and soinach), and this is the one we have in the freezer right now:

“adjusted for… but not price changes”: does that mean this could be bc tariffs (etc), and not bc sales are actually up? or that real sales could even be down actually but w tariffs (etc), the total numbers look increased?

this basically means “use it to get ideas”. but you can just talk to your coworkers to get ideas. that’s part of the whole point of working with people! it’s like we’re all supposed to be in little bubbles interacting only w the machine but not each other gaaaaaaaaaaaaah (reason #379533 i hate llms)

August 29, 2025 at 12:47 PM
hold on: if they’re making 200k, then paying ~2500 rent is the standard definition of what rent should be by boomer standards. cuomo, a boomer, would normally be saying that anybody paying more than ~2500/ month on a 200k salary is irresponsible blah blah avocado toast.

rent control for everyone!
