Since the new iOS, is the iPhone slower to unlock? Other latency issues seem improved. But unlocking… idk. Seems slowed down.

So, I found a M. Noël (André Claude). He's def my protagonist's friend in the gardening club, the "ancien notaire" who lived on Rue Rivoli, number 30. But he's not my protagonist's business partner in the Salle Ventadour/Opéra-Comique venture. Their signatures are very distinctive and don't match 🙁

Thank you! it’s more data collection and software development in Python 😊

I started a new job today (first one outside academia) and I completely lost track of the transfer market mayhem. These millionaire sports people’s last-minute, literally 11th-hour negotiations and document write-ups throws me back to academia and school papers.

Can’t wait to catch up!

If you have any info on a M. Noël, who was (a) part of the Société d’horticulture de Paris in 1828 and/or (b) a creditor for the Salle Ventadour venture in 1830, please let me know! Noël is a hard family name to track down. Looking for a rich bourgeois dude (who probably likes gardening) ca. 1830.

Doing research for fun, I stumbled on this transcription of accounts the Senate published of witnesses to the attempted shooting of the king, Louis-Philippe, around Christmas in 1836. It's such a rich resource, featuring testimonies from different classes of Parisians!

|25-40| = 15 (Chelsea’s compromise)
|60-40| = 20 (Man U’s compromise)
20 ≠ 15

|70-40| = 30 (original Man U compromise)
30 ≠ 15

There’s a clear winner here—clear as Grimsby—and United aren’t it.

Party A: I want £70.
Party B: I’ll pay £25.

[party A drops their price to £60.]

Reporters: The parties found a “happy medium” at £40.

Me: No they didn’t! Party A got fleeced. Sort your maths out.

Postscript: Manchester United suck at financial planning and their negotiators suck at negotiating.

“Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim suffered the most embarrassing result of his Old Trafford reign as his woeful team were humiliated by League Two Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup.”
@theathleticfc.bsky.social

This is accurate and, somehow, both surprising and predictable at the same time.

WTF? This is Grimsby. Grimsby!! We spent all that money this summer. We (the fans) have given Amorim so much leeway and grace. I still believe in him… But WTF? The first 2 of this season’s 38 games were bad results, but we push through it. We found hope in the performances. But this? It’s Grimsby!!

I was watching Spurs and didn’t see but… what on earth happened with West Ham today? What is that result?

So excited for the new #EPL SEASON 2025-2026!

My #FPL Midwestern Wanderers are here! Both we and #MUFC are both gonna bring it 🏆

Also, with everything going on, I love that the biggest question on my mind for the next few days: Bruno or Mbeumo? Love football.

Cynthia Erivo came to Cleveland Orchestra’s summer home, Blossom, to perform mostly pop, jazz, and a few Broadway tunes arranged for orchestra to a crowd of 20k. There was no Wicked, which I think is sad for all the little girls who came out (dressed up). But she sang the hell out of Feeling Good.

1. Bollards are necessary because, though motos will find their way on almost any sidewalk, it’s important to draw a line somewhere 🚗
And 2. Our mayor @annehidalgo.bsky.social has made it a central part of her mission to (a) improve the city’s air quality and (b) make streets safer. It’s a priority.

This part of Lisbon is under the path of a lot of airplanes. Some people find it hard not to notice #DH2025
A statute of a mother and child, titled “Maternidad,” by the artist Fernando Botero. Her neck is craned back, which angles her gaze toward an airplane that happens to be approaching its descent to the Lisbon airport

I also learned they got really into porcelain after trading with China.
