Geordie in Yorkshire. I am defined by no other attributes or interests.
Ever since watching Conclave, I’ve quietly nurtured an ambition to become the first female pope. It appears the moment may have arrived. How does one throw one’s hat into the ring?

My husband has taught human reproduction and development to the Cambridge medics for over three decades. When people start banging on about "only two biological sexes" he starts with "which sex: genetic, hormonal, or gonadal"?

Biological sex is not binary. www.scientificamerican.com/article/sex-...
Sex Redefined: The Idea of 2 Sexes Is Overly Simplistic
Biologists now think there is a larger spectrum than just binary female and male

In light of today’s ruling,I stand in solidarity with the trans community,as an intersectional feminist and as someone who values the strength of an interpretivist epistemology. Now more than ever,we must resist reductive, positivist frameworks that deny the complexity and dignity of lived experience.

@ianrankin1.bsky.social Just reading The Falls Ian. There’s no way Rebus wouldn’t think “Mark E Smith” immediately when he saw that clue! I did and it wasn’t me who saw him 20 (make that 40!) years ago “at a club in Abbeyhill”. Anyway, the book has got me through a nasty dose of Covid. Thanks!

I have an issue with NYT Connections puzzle today. The blue category transgresses the principle of connectivity, replacing meaningful groupings with sequential arrangement. I haven’t seen this before and would not like to again. Connections

Richard Nixon #thewrongshoes Yet this is before he knew they were wrong. He looks quite comfortable in them. He thinks he looks nice. He doesn’t yet know about board shoes.

I like how small, seemingly inconsequential moments can ripple into pivotal events. Take Richard Nixon wearing black dress shoes to the beach. A minor misstep (one Kennedy would never had made) that ushered in a paranoia culminating in Watergate. What if you wear the wrong shoes tomorrow. What then?
