But that doesn’t stop denser housing from being good policy. Like, can we not just abandon our principles because guys we don’t like have decided that one of those principles OK with them? I think that approach might really help.

The Abundance people are taking something that is objectively good policy (de-restrict housing and allow more public transit), and declaring that it is the only thing necessary to fix politics for working people, to the exclusion of every other progressive policy.

Those systems ended up keeping establishment politicians in power, preventing necessary reforms, and allowing living standards to deteriorate to the point where nothing could keep extremists out of power. Electoral systems should reflect the choices of the people, anything else is not democracy.

This is a bad take. In the midst of an unprecedented power grab by the executive, you want Congress to willingly surrender more of its power by reducing their ability to research issues and help constituents navigate the gutting of public services.

I think they need a while opposition cabinet. Get someone with experience in each department’s area to comment on that policy area. Build up a platform by advocating over four years and showing the public the people who can implement it.

They need to make it apply to any location where the condition has been met at any time since the bill was introduced. That way, anti-housing nuts won’t be able to get out of it by cutting transit.
