Digital illustration of a young cricket boy going down a pebble road on his way to school. His mom is waving him off from a blue door in a tree stump, and the scene is a forest floor. Digital illustration of animal characters who are mailmen, with a bigger shot of a panda blowing in his post horn and then smaller animals who look like they are walking out of it, featuring an orange cat, an anteater, a giraffe, a hedgehog, a badger, a turtle, a mouse, a rabbit, a rhino, a rooster, a duck and a guinea pig. Digital illustration of four kids having fun on their sleds on a snowy hill. One boy and a girl are coming down, the boy is scared and the girl has a big smile on her face. Their black and white dog in a yellow sweater is following them. Two other kids are staying behind and waiting for their turn. The boy in the back has a smug facial expression while the girl is looking at the boy with concern. Digital illustration of a group of kids with their teacher on a visit to a botanical garden. In the foreground there's a boy using a magnifying glass to take a better look at a flower and in the background there's three kids reading a book with pictures, a boy and a girl looking at a butterfly, one girl reading a sign in front of plants, and another looking up at her teacher with amazement at his story.

(Hoping Bsky won't compress the hell out of this image this time :,) )

Here is the whole gang in scale with one another! Chloe makes Josaphine look so tiny!!

I worked really hard on these and I hope it shows ❤️
Colored 2d drawings of five anthropomorphic animal characters. A king eagle, a cat in a red skirt with a pumpkin helmet, a regal falcon woman in a blue dress, a small rock dove woman in multicolored scale mail, and a tall moose woman in a dark cloak and green traveling clothes.

A day at the skull museum.
A four panel comic about a skeleton looking at skulls in the skull museum. In the first panel, the skeleton stands below a shelf displaying two skulls. Text reads, "looking at skulls in the skull museum".

In the second and third panels, the skeleton looks closely at two skulls.

In the fourth panel, the skeleton stands next to a tiered display of three skulls. Text reads, "none of them look like me lmao". A non-skeletal man nearby looks at the skeleton.

Their partnership with Exactly(.)ai from January 2025:

They insist they aren’t currently partnered with any 3rd party companies and only promote real artists work!

I’m not sure if they’ve also managed to repair their sullied reputation amongst ADs and editors. Do your research and make your own decision, it’s an extremely important one!

Art Lab is open for submissions at the moment. Be very careful and research who you’re submitting to!

Horrified by this e-mail I got from a real illustration agency this morning, advertising the chance to *USE AI* to generate images in the style of one of their illustrators. You join their plan for $$$, pick an artist, give the AI a prompt, then reach out if you want specialization.
An illustrated portrait in a painterly/cartoon style of a black woman with a puff at the back of her hair, a blue scarf headband, big double-hoop earring, and a yellow blouse with white flowers and a Peter Pan collar, against a green background filled with clouds and leaves. Text at the bottom says << Image generated with Exactly.ai in a style of Masha Shu >>.

A digital illustrated book cover of a picture book titled Bessie the Motorcycle Queen.
It shows Bessie Stringfield on her iconic Hogs (Harleys) against a backdrop of the Grand Canyon.

providing no sources. She wildly misrepresents the books she mentions, and while she flirts with some interesting topics she quickly abandons them and fully commits to conservative purity-culture soapboxing.

And she heavily leans on academia aesthetics to lend herself credibility, hence the skull.

A couple of comments do the breakdown and critique really well, but to start off she's using a far-right dog whistle in the title and in the comments, repeatedly! Her entire argument is based on gender essentialism, infantilisation of women and vibes. She insists she's stating objective facts, while

Very happy to see she’s finally being criticized and challenged on her (thinly veiled conservative) nonsense!

Almost Home - this month’s riso print to ring in the fall.

Not sure how to describe it, but this time of year always feels like I’m almost “home” so I wanted to come up with something that touches on that feeling a little

I don't think it's overdramatic to say that we must consider whether we want "working artist" to be a viable prospect in the near future, and how to materially protect the field from corporations, execs, and managers all too happy to automate creative production with AI.

Freelance illustration gigs drying up. Ad agencies using Midjourney instead of hiring human artists. Costume design turned over to AI wholesale. Good work vanishing.

These are the stories of working visual artists, who describe losing jobs, wages, and hope as their clients and bosses embrace AI.

Visual artists, illustrators and graphic designers share their stories about how AI is being used to lower wages, degrade work and even replace it altogether, in this installment of AI Killed My Job.
