On this day in 1553, at Pau, in the joint Kingdom of Navarre with the Principality of Béarn, Henri of Navarre, future King Henri IV of France, was born. His parents were Jeanne d’Albret, who in 1560 converted to Protestantism, and Antoine de Bourbon, Duc of Vendôme.

François Hotman was an outstanding student at the Law School at the University of Orléans. He adopted the Reformed ideas around 1547. Thanks to Calvin, he was appointed as a teacher of literature in the Académie in Lausanne in 1549.
