The best-performing reminder campaign sent weekly emails to customers who hadn't made a savings deposit in the last week nudging them to save, and those who had already made a deposit were congratulated. This campaign boosted monthly one-time savings deposits by 1.32%.

🚨NEW PAPER ALERT🚨
Can reminder emails compel Americans to save? We ran a 2 million person megastudy with a large US bank to find out. Our results published today in @pnasnexus.org suggest that the answer is: yes, probably, a little. 🧵

If you’re confused about why studies of the effects of Tylenol in pregnancy have disputed implications, you may want to better understand selection bias. This q&a (which doesn’t cover tylenol) could help! katymilkman.substack.com/p/what-is-se...

What happens if you *ask* instead of *tell*? Turns out, teasing people with a question before sharing a fact can shape whether people engage with critical health information. Read our new paper in Management Science to learn more: pubsonline.informs.org/doi/full/10....

I'm incredibly excited to join Hayley Finn (who is Theater J’s Artistic Director and the Director of this show) onstage to discuss how behavioral science has woven its way into the plot of THIS MUCH I KNOW (as well as any other questions thrown at us about my field).

The play is called THIS MUCH I KNOW. It's about a psychology professor's search for his missing wife, which launches a time-hopping fugue. The Guardian gave this staging ⭐⭐⭐⭐ and called it "An invigorating theatrical brainteaser."

🔥BIG NEWS🔥 I'm making my off-Broadway debut on 10/4! Never fear: I'm *not* acting. Instead, I'm doing a post-show Q&A w/ the director of a new play inspired by Danny Kahneman's book THINKING, FAST AND SLOW. The play was written by the Tony Award-winning Jonathan Spector 🧵

But doesn’t worrying about this problem mean I’ll have to support a return to traditional gender roles and restriction of women’s autonomy and access to birth control? Absolutely not and this book strongly advocates against such policies!
katymilkman.bsky.social
But won’t population decline be good for the environment? Nope. If we all stopped procreating for the next 20 years it would only reduce carbon emissions 14%! Not nearly enough to avert catastrophic climate change. Our environmental problems need tech solutions (see prior point)!
katymilkman.bsky.social
Who cares? Mike convincingly made the case for people. We’re better off with more innovators, more demand for services & more people with unique tastes. It’s the spike in population over the last several hundred years that has brought giant improvements in quality of life & tech.
katymilkman.bsky.social
Why are fertility rates falling everywhere in the world (including sub-Saharan Africa where fertility rates remain the highest)? The data is unclear. What is clear is that there are no outliers and no known policy solutions.
katymilkman.bsky.social
Mike made the case with compelling data that while the human population has been growing for essentially all of our history as a species, we are on track for a massive global population collapse unless some enormous shift arises in trends, the likes of which we’ve never seen.
