Oh also scaffolding can be the exercises you do to hone one skill. So if you just do different cylinders and cones and cubes across a whole page, stretching them and making noodles and rotations and stuff that's also scaffolding

That's what my art professors called it. Any temporary structure that supports the final piece so underdrawings, block ins, guide layers whatever. So I did a quick Loomis head to get the ratio and planes of the face defined and then looked at a photo of myself to recreate it through hatching only.
