I agree that I’m glad to see people finally giving the genre a chance! I think it’s also valid tho that people feel frustrated to have been made fun of for liking something until suddenly it’s westernized enough to be cool. I’ve sadly seen some pretty casually racist takes which isn’t great.

I personally like Vaan & his presence just because he provides the POV perspective for us as the player, also being totally clueless. & he shows how the decisions of the more prominent cast affects everyone in Ivalice. But that’s just my personal view & get why it would detract for others!

It definitely isn’t for everyone & I can understand why it doesn’t click for some, but I really loved the narrative & mechanics!

For the most part they’re genuinely not bad! It’s been one of the kindest sub-communities within FF I’ve encountered overall.

I feel like I hear people discuss the FF10 and FF13 gals a fair bit! I get when ppl don’t vibe with a game or character, but I saw a thread recently discussing about the ff12 “main” protags & everyone was arguing between Basch, Vaan, and Balthier. NO ONE MENTIONED ASHE IN 100 COMMENTS ☠️

This is also a perfect example of why I actually encourage my clients who game to keep doing it. The way it can help them learn frustration tolerance, actively practice calling skills, and encourage perseverance is the best.

This process has been tedious & exhausting, but I feel so much relief now to have clarity & options. Getting mental health assessments or care should not be this difficult.
