in lotr they plot the destruction of a rival faction vying for power stolen from a kingdom. in conan he fucks in like every story. the forgotten realms are dnd books and dnd used to be a war tabletop before they thought people might like characters

the main types of fantasy are political intrigue, fuckin hard elf style, or being a good minion and going to war for some random political power and not thinking about it hard. this has been the case for so long. lotr is political intrigue, conan is fuckin hard, half the forgotten realms are war

"romance books are just porn now!" 1, not true 2, not bad and 3, not new, just a lot easier to get published widespread because of morality laws in printing being changed

"fantasy is all political intrigue now!" 1, not true 2, u realize that plots about king/country are political, right

maybe the genre isn't changing very much maybe you just read bad books in that genre and think that's the only kind (this applies to all genres btw)
