Most conferences have bursaries as an option but why make people ask for money when steps could be put in place to make an event more affordable/accesible in the first place? Many in our sector, not just students, are struggling financially.
kayth.bsky.social
Accesibility & #archaeology conferences. TAG what are you doing? No day rate? Not hybrid but if you are speaking and cant afford to attend in-person (reg/travel/accomodation just before xmas) then you still have to pay £40 to speak online just in that session at a conference that isnt hybrid? 🏺

A depressing read. I was passionate about improving things but inexpereinced & niaive about the sheer weight of wider sector opposition; IFA had limited power & influence over other arch orgs & individuals that saw no need to change. EO should never have been a volunteer role-still adovcating that

I used to follow your account over on that other place, happy to see you've come here :)

I can't remember who on here recommended reading this, but thank you!

All current members of European Association Archaeologists (EAA) the per rollam ballot has been emailed out & includes vote to review Statues & mechanism for vote of no confidence. Exec Board will call special meeting to approve these. 📣 Needs 5% of members to respond! 🏺
kayth.bsky.social
So EAA update: the google form calling for the EAA to hold a special meeting was taken down after 'complaints' - however all signatures were saved as the form has been moved over to a different host. If you want to sign there is still time - link is here:

Thanks to colleagues in Spain who, following the EAA AGM last week, have taken the lead in calling for a special meeting - open to all EAA members to sign if they so wish ⬇️
kayth.bsky.social
There were calls for this from the membership - but no mechanism by which to enact it. I guess when the org was founded they (niaively) never imagined a situation where they might need it.
kayth.bsky.social
It seems there is no mechanism within the statutes enabling the Members to call for a vote, the President can choose to resign, but can't be forced to resign, even if the rest of the Board resign.
kayth.bsky.social
There were indeed, and I have so much respect for those individuals. To open the floor to Members and then give no reply, no acknowledgement, no apology, no indication of next steps? So disappointing.
kayth.bsky.social
Oh and then two past Presidents were wheeled out to essentially back her up, in an unbelievbly patronizing tone, reminding the Membership to... behave...be grateful...who knows.

You don't have to be #EAA member to email regarding #EA2025 mess.

Email is so important - many people don't use social media & online comments can be dismissed, but heartfelt emails from individuals can't be ignored...

Please write today. Thank you!

If you're an #archaeologist whether in #EAA or not, please email (politely & respectfully) to voice concerns about #EAA2025.

This is our discipline, our sector, & we don't have to be members of an org to voice concern about what it does in our name.

Members vote of no confidence to the annaul meeting on Friday?
kayth.bsky.social
So very wrong to put volunteers & ECRs in that position
kayth.bsky.social
Annual meeting is on Friday & members want answers. From whats been said online either the EAA president knew & agreed or she didnt & therefore lost control of board, either way the buck stops with her and surely she should resign?
kayth.bsky.social
So.. either the EAA President knew & agreed to this statement/email going out without board approval (so breach of constitution?) Or didnt know & has lost control of the organisation/brought it in to disrepute? Surely either way she should resign? Can members bring a vote of no confidence?
lauramca.bsky.social
I’ve seen evidence to suggest that members of the Executive Board of EAA have resigned in protest at the email instructions being circulated without approval. What a mess the organization is in and notable the type of foul genocide apologists they are attracting to their defense.

⭐️The knucklebone players⭐️

This #FrescoFriday we travel to Herculaneum. The scene has been labelled revealing Phoebe (the Titan) trying to pacify Leto (her daughter) and Niobe; on the ground two of the Niobids, Ileira and Aglaia play knucklebones.

#AncientRome #AncientBluesky🏺
The scene is thought to relate to the great wrath that fractured the friendship of Leto and Niobe. Niobe praised her own children and mocked Leto’s. Leto wasn’t having it and asked her children (Apollo and Artemis no less) to take revenge. Ileira and Aglaia play without seeming to realise the tragedy that is about to befall them.

This fresco is signed by Alexander of Athens in the upper left corner and is now held in the MAN Napoli (inv. 9562). While only the outlines remain today, the remains of paint suggest this was originally a richly polychromic scene.
