I am super excited to announce that we have a tenure-track faculty position in biophysics open in the Department of Physics at Carnegie Mellon! 🧪

PLEASE, share widely across the blue skies!

Let me briefly explain what we're looking for:

Tenure-track Position in Biophysics at Carnegie Mellon University, Department of Physics

Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Open Date: Sep 19, 2025

Description
The Department of Physics at Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in biophysics. The appointment is intended to be at the Assistant Professor level, but exceptional candidates at a higher level may also be considered. We seek outstanding candidates with a strong record in cellular and subcellular biophysics. Topics of particular interest include, but are not limited to, uncovering how key characteristics of living systems arise from the interplay between supramolecular cellular structures, how the emergent cellular circuitry defines goals and enables robust decision making, and how metabolic resources are allocated. This encompasses understanding of how information is learned, stored, transduced, and processed across subcellular structures. Applicants with theoretical, data science, or experimental backgrounds within biological physics are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will strengthen and extend research programs of current biophysics faculty in the Department of Physics and collaborate with broader life science activities across many departments at CMU and the wider Pittsburgh area.

Great job, Washington State and @doh.wa.gov ! It is awesome to see COVID vaccines available and advertised again on the doors of this pharmacy. I've booked my appointment for my dual flu/COVID vaccination and am looking forward it!
The image is a photo of two sliding glass doors. Each door has a blue sign that says "Pharmacy. Flu, COVID and RSV vaccines available at no cost to you. No appointment needed."

US colleagues: we've got 4 days to submit comments! It's easy! Clear steps for writing an impactful public comment are compiled by a group of scientists: publiccommentproject.org/how-to. Amending 8 CFR 214.2 imposes a bad 4-yr cap, and students can't follow you to change programs if you change jobs

Good idea. @cantwell.senate.gov, I live in your state, and I called your office today to urge you to take more substantive action (beyond a mere statement) regarding Chairman Carr overstepping his authority to police free speech that he doesn't like.

So DO SOMETHING, @cantwell.senate.gov. Move to cut off his salary. Something. Anything.

"Chairman Brendan Carr does not have the authority to police speech that he or the President don't personally like. Especially when there is a pending merger with the affected parties in front of the FCC."

I'm so grateful to every donor to the UW Dept. of Chemistry! Donations help our students do things that our federal grants could not support. For example, Sena, a great grad student in my group, traveled to the Lindau Conference in Germany to talk with Nobel laureates! Go @uwchemistry.bsky.social!
The image is a screenshot from the website https://artsci.washington.edu/news/2025-09/where-world-arts-sciences. The photo shows two smiling scientists, Sena Noaman and Akira Yoshino. They are both wearing glasses and they have conference name tags on lanyards around their necks. The text says "Sena Noaman, Doctoral Student, Chemistry. Sena Noaman attended the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting in Germany. (In the photo, Sena is with 2019 Nobel laureate Akira Yoshino.) The travel was supported by the Department of Chemistry's George H.
