If someone doesn't have that same feeling with Rowling, that doesn't make that person literally homophobic or whatever, but it might indicate that certain topics, such as transphobia, aren't issues close to that person or something they deeply care about. And I do like keeping that in mind.

I get what you mean, but I do think it gives a small window into a person's character. When I buy a racist or transphobic person's stuff, I feel a certain guilt or ick for supporting such a bad person. This pretty directly relates to how close those issues are to me and how much I care about them.
