That’s a good rule to have! But it’s also kind of retail therapy to buy devkits on a whim 🙃

ECP5 is awesome and the open source toolchain combination yosys/nextpnr/trellis works really well. What kind of issues did you have and which board are you using?

Looks like a fun project! Sounds like there’s just some details left. Is this captured from hardware or some sort of software solution?

It's actually way more ergonomic this way, I promise!

Oh, it just so happens to be a @solder.party RP2350 Stamp XL mounted on a RP2xxx Stamp Carrier XL 😅

Found the root cause of the blurryness. Turns out that I had connected two of the color bits to pins that were tied to the i2c bus on the carrier board I am using, causing the signals to go all the way to the hdmi capture card and affecting the signal a lot.

Got my first capture from the top screen of the Nintendo DS Lite using a Raspberry Pi RP2350 microcontroller. Captured using PIO, outputting DVI-D using HSTX. There is still some work left to do, but it's getting there!

(Uhm, ignore the difference in the pattern number, it shows up on both 4 and 5. The point still stands; and I should’ve tested the code on the unit with a connected top screen first and not just rely on an emulator)

Was getting weird traces that didn’t match the expected output from my homebrew test code. Hardware vs emulation strikes again 😅
Was drawing using OpenGL and I guess I queued up too many calls or something.
