Excerpt from "with every wish, it's hit or miss":

"Christ alive," he mutters. "Blondie, you really can't say shit like that."

"Like what?"

Wolfwood glares, or tries to. "You know--"

"Do I know, Nicholas?" And there it is again, that tone of voice that means Wolfwood's death, or something close enough. "Do you really want me to, right now? Or do you want to keep pretending like—"

One of them moves first. Or maybe they both move simultaneously, an echo of dancing. He's in Vash's space now, crowding; or maybe Vash is in his. Even through the last dregs of cigarette stink he can smell Vash, all the warmth of midday sun and twice as sweet.

"Like neither of us know exactly what's coming," Vash finishes in a stilted sort of way. At this distance, even if he wasn't a freak, Wolfwood could still hear Vash swallow. It's like a shotgun blast in both ears.
