I’m not sure if anyone plays #BluePrince but I completed it today, thank god. Now I can actually work during this semester 🤣
The meme of Frodo in front of Mt Doom saying it’s done, but the lava is blue. Shows four saves of the game. Day 133 (normal save), Day 20 (Dare mode), Day 2 (1 day run), Day 44 (Cursed). Shows Ps5 trophy at 100%.

Here's a hot take that maybe is me just telling on myself:

Conference themes are pointless. Has anyone ever actually adjusted one's presentation to fit the theme?

My *only* thought is if they provide any clarity on what fields are welcome, but I would hazard if that has any impact.

Analyses of Social Issues and Public Policy (ASAP) accepts registered reports and we would love to see more of them! @kcarriere.bsky.social @spssi.bsky.social

I love Registered Reports because it's no fun wrestling with reviewers about design decisions that we can do nothing about after data collection. But still, SO few journals in my research area accept them.

So I just fired off a load of this email. Here if you want to do the same: osf.io/n6bx9
screenshot of an email to editors, that is available in full in the link in the post

I know we talk a lot about our students using AI, but as an Editor, can we start talking about academics using AI? It's getting really bad. One paper I just rejected had about 8 "not X, but also Y" in a two-page section on its own, nevermind the bolds, the lists, etc.
kcarriere.bsky.social
Academia -- we doing ok? Gotten two angry replies from rejection decisions lately, even at my best of consoling and being supportive of the future of the work. I know we're all tired of the publication process - but let's remember we're in this together.

Nothing beats 1:1 organizing meetings in the morning.

So how do you pick people as options for external reviewers for tenure, asking for a friend…. That friend is me.

Does @spssi.bsky.social organize hotel sharing contact info for undergraduates looking to attend the conference?

been thinking a lot in my lab about what it means to use the state to go after your enemies (for no reason at all). the beginnings of that thinking are in our paper on what makes state punishment unique (now in press at EJSP)

Is the France travel advisory “They don’t tear gas their protestors enough” (emphasis on the rare) or is it pot calling the kettle black, holier than thou?
The Us State Department travel advisory to France reads “On rare occasions, demonstrations have included violence and property damage and police have responded with water cannons and tear gas.”

Anyone going to #SPSSI and want to organize a symposium? Labor / collective action / collective memory / interactive stories. #PsychSciSky #SocialPsychology.

Science is crazy! They can feed you radioactive eggs and track their movement through your stomach! 🤯

Also, I can't enter federal buildings for the next 24 hours due to the chance I might set off bomb detectors.

So that's fun. And still, no one knows what's going on.

This summer, with about a month before school started, I threw out everything for Intro and re-prepped it. I want to do the same this winter break with #socialpsyc. If anyone in socpsyc or polpsy has anything they are willing to share for Social, I'd love to see it!

R.I.P, prof. Emerita Ivana Markovà, one of my academic idols in psychology. Her theoretical accuracy inspired me deeply in the most recent of my papers with @bradywagoner.bsky.social . From woman in science to a woman in science, THANK YOU! 🤓💛🙏🏼

Why do my wife's activities that work for her 8th and 9th graders work so well for my students?

Anyway, I'm always going to do Jeopardy-style review days moving forward. That was a blast.
A screenshot of a Jeopardy board with six columns, a row of categories, and then rows of $200, $400, $600, $800, and $1000. The categories are "Goo Goo Gah Gah", "Of Mice, Men, and Mothers", "The Diagnostic Mixtape", "Couch Confessionals", "PSYCH!", and "It's Me, Hi, I'm The Problem It's Me."

No one thought I could do it. I didn't believe in myself. I had failed in the task for nine semesters in a row. How could I ever?

But I finally did it.

I remembered to put in custom questions in my course evaluations.

I want to thank the Academy, collaborators, haters, and students. We did it!

It's fun to have been at two SLACs because Stonehill is just three or so years behind the changes W&J made. These consultants must start on the West Coast and move their way East.

At this point, I've probably had this app for fourteen years, but it remains the most useful app ever to be designed. github.com/SelfControlA... .
A screenshot of an App called SelfControl. There is a slider that has moved up to 6 hours. In the middle of the grey box with the slider there is a button that says "Start Block". Underneath the grey box is a list of websites under the heading "Domain Blocklist", with lichess.org, chess.com, twitter.com, reddit.com, bsky.app, facebook.com all on the list. A blue button on the right shows Blocklist is selected.

shocked anxiety yesterday by reformatting my CV. Love it? Hate it? I feel like ToC is controversial.
