I keep wishing Ghost would basically come up with a way to let you bundle, because it's where most (not all, but most) of the places I subscribe or want to subscribe seem to be landing. It feels like there should be a platform-level solution somhow

...thank you for this inspiration to go find french and spanish wordles and break my brain

Really interesting to look back at a decade that gave us Clerks, Office Space, and Dilbert all at once, and think about them as cultural artifacts of a culture that is gone.

(Especially not when it would have been easier to have one, in our 30s.)

Yeah, we got extremely lucky career-and-support wise by the time we had the second and even so, there's no way we could support a third.

-- it absolutely felt like we were asking for the moon and stars and in retrospect, WOW, it sure shouldn't have? Late 30s couple wanting to have two children should not feel so absurd.

We absolutely lucked into a 3br rental -- rare as hen's teeth here to start with -- BELOW market rate, in 2019, it was a pure lightning strike and we were so, SO fortunate for it and, like... it shouldn't be like winning the lottery, to find an affordable unit you can have two kids in --

child care being $18K/yr in 2013 money and 3br apartments being incredibly rare / expensive were definitely two of the biggest factors in our two kids being five full years apart, and in there being only two of them. Money would fix a lot of problems for a lot of people!

I feel like that's what's making so many people basically crazy. A constant state of tension and terror, schrodinger's disaster that doesn't collapse into one thing or another

I choose for my own sanity to believe that a lot of folks with takes like that are very young but then again my own kids at ages 7 and 12 are learning to parse out villainy as a series of bad choices made when good choices were available, so

The year I turned 40 we absolutely lucked into an urban home where we can live very easily on one level (and could very simply install a ramp over the three exterior steps) with walkable, flat access to transportation and commerce and I was like: this is it, this is *the* house we could ever age in

I round both up and down in a chaotic kind of way that only makes sense to me, personally but tends to make the totals come out absolutely right hahahaha

(Like at Costco for example, I throw stuff into the cart and usually have the pre-tax total roughly right even though my math is bananas)

I am 100% aware this is exactly how my brain does with money and I'm kind of relieved to discover everyone else's does too, haha.

a funny thing happened to me after a decade+ of using ebooks for all my fiction and almost never seeing covers: I kind of hate all the design now lol, and I don't know if it's because I missed a decade of evolution or if it's because I just hate today's vibes. maybe both

Oh, I hadn't seen the news; I'm so sorry. And I know how destabilizing it is. (My mom died in July.) All my best wishes to you and yours.

So, so good. Sneaking my underage boyfriend into the theater with me for that remains one of the smartest things I ever did in high school/college.

(Also "I don't know... it's a mystery" absolutely instantly became part of my family's language.)

I envy our cat, many days: a life of play, sleep, treats, and no ability to understand human language or events

At this point I figure anyone who's following me on BSky is here *because* I pretty much only tweet about other stuff.
January 11, 2026 at 12:42 AM
Yeah! I've had that too! Or at least a sensation I could describe similarly. It's *wild*

(And I sneeze in huge batches, 3 or 6 or, one really awful day, 11, so it just keeps going.)
