Hi everyone! I’ve noticed a lot of new folks here so I thought I’d say welcome and introduce myself. I’m an assistant professor in the math department at Cal State San Marcos (~30 min north of San Diego). My research is in the area of dynamical systems. (1/)

Hey so I’ll be filling out a complaint form to report a Hatch Act violation if anyone wants to join me.
A screenshot of the U.S. Forest Service (USDA) website on a mobile browser. At the top, a banner with a U.S. flag icon says, “An official website of the United States government. Here’s how you know.” Below is a large yellow warning box with a black exclamation mark symbol, reading: “The Radical Left Democrats shutdown the government. This government website will be updated periodically during the funding lapse for mission critical functions. President Trump has made it clear he wants to keep the government open and support those who feed, fuel, and clothe the American people.” Underneath, the Forest Service logo and text “Forest Service U.S.D.A” appear with a green menu button. A large background image shows a road under construction along a rocky riverbank, overlaid with the caption “More than a road.”

ARE YOU READY FOR FAT BEAR WEEK 🐻

Happy Autumnal Equinox! 🍂🍁 I turned on the Halloween lights on my house and am listening to the Practical Magic soundtrack. Yesterday I baked a garden focaccia.
A rectangular blue-gray ceramic baking dish filled with focaccia dough, decorated with vegetables arranged to look like flowers. Two onion “tulips” with curved red onion petals stand upright, while clusters of halved cherry tomatoes with parsley sprigs resemble blossoms. Green onion stalks act as stems, parsley leaves as foliage, and scattered capers mimic small buds. Olive oil glistens on the dough’s surface, framing the garden-like design. The same focaccia as before, but it has been baked and taken on a golden brown color.

Lego Rivendell is complete
A completed LEGO Rivendell set displayed on a wooden table. The detailed build includes the tall grey stone tower with green spires on the left, an arched hall with an intricate orange and green tiled roof in the center, and a white domed gazebo on the right connected by bridges and walkways. Colorful brick-built trees with yellow, green, and orange leaves frame the scene. Numerous minifigures, including elves and members of the Fellowship, are gathered around the central council area and along the pathways, bringing the scene to life. In the background, household items such as plants, framed pictures, papers, and a red box are visible.

I miss when booing for Nazis was a given.

At first I read this as a sign for horses to read, telling them they are allowed to be in the hallway, but they should enter quietly and slowly.

Oh damn I am delighted to learn this is in San Diego. Adding it to my list of places to go. In these uncertain times when everything feels terrible, pastries can help just a bit.

Don’t worry, I didn’t cut them myself. My friend did. 🤗

"that's not funny, no one should lose their lives to gun violence" so true! that's what we've been saying all along. I'm so glad you agree

This is definitely true but sometimes I delude myself into thinking I can just do it myself at home for cheaper.

Still Sunday here! Baked some orange rolls today.
A pan of freshly baked orange rolls sits on a stovetop. The rolls are golden brown with a glossy orange glaze coating the swirled tops, filling the rectangular baking dish in neat rows. In the background, part of the oven control panel and a floral ceramic spoon rest are visible.

Man it has been an insane couple of weeks. Tenure file due, start of the semester, paper revisions due, and sabbatical application due all within less than three weeks. But it’s all done and I was able to celebrate by biking to the farmers market!
A farmers’ market table with a green-and-white checkered tablecloth decorated with apples and cherries. On the table are three small baskets of fresh berries—raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries—a bouquet of bright yellow sunflowers wrapped in newspaper, and a clear takeout container of mango sticky rice topped with black and white sesame seeds. In the background, other tables and chairs are visible.

I’m definitely showing this thread to my intro proofs class today where we discuss the importance of definitions.

Girlfriend got me the Lego Rivendell set for my birthday and I am incredibly lucky. Phase 1 is complete!
A LEGO model of a segment of Rivendell featuring a medieval-style chapel and tower. The gray stone-like structure has a cylindrical turret with a green conical roof and spire, and a sloped roof decorated with a colorful diamond pattern of orange, blue, and tan tiles. Arched windows, statues, and small plants add detail at the base, with the model displayed on a woven circular placemat in a cozy room setting.

Trapped at home waiting for a package that I need to sign for, where they keep pushing back the delivery window. At least I'm getting a lot done.
