Started school more than two weeks ago and just getting these photos posted now. 😬 It’s been a whirlwind—new school, new state, new subject, new schedule, new students. Enjoying my students and grateful to be near family…and missing Kansas🌻
Wishing the very best school year to all!

I’m missing you all again 😔 bc I start a new job at a new school tomorrow (they start early down here so it’s been a short summer). I’m eking out the very last moments of my summer tonight on more peaceful waters. #HATM

Quick trip on a rather warm day to Etowah Mounds near Cartersville, GA. Super interesting Indigenous site along the Etowah River and offers nature trails.

Field trip to the Eisenhower farm where they retired and lived the rest of their lives at Gettysburg. It’s now a National Park Historic Site complete with Ike’s personal putting green.

So grateful that my cousin, who is a Gettysburg Battle guide, took me throughout the Battlefield and then up Little Round Top at sunset last night. I learned so much to add to Bayonets! to share with my students this year.

Just realized I have not been posting my books. I’m still reading…mostly audiobooks in my car, in my moving truck, whilst setting up my new classroom, on my workout, etc. Finished American Duchess about the fascinating life of Consuelo Vanderbilt & includes her mother Alva Belmont. #Bookish

Looking for peace and light in nature with cat companions and a literary damselfly. Hope you find some beauty and serenity today.

These Eastern Phoebes hatched outside my door. I’ve been watching them grow and today they flew the nest and were adorably testing their wings by gliding off the deck railing.

Our Summer Learning Institute with Georgia Council for the Social Studies (GCSS) and A Plus Tours, LLC visited the National Infantry Museum in Columbus, GA. This museum’s exhibits are stunning and it’s free to tour! I only made it through about half of it so I will definitely be going back!

Plains, GA did not disappoint on this Summer Learning Institute adventure! A tiny town proud of raising up a President and First Lady. And try the peanut butter ice cream! 🍦

Plains High School from which Jimmy and Roslyn Carter graduated, now preserved as a National Park Service site. We heard from President Carter’s niece who shared some touching and lesser known stories.

True to form, I’m already on a Summer Learning Institute with Georgia Council for the Social Studies (GCSS) starting at Andersonville Civil War Prisoner of War Camp and then on the bus to Plains, GA. Soaking up so much history

I am so very grateful for the 20 years I had in KC/Kansas. So many friends who feel like family made it very difficult to leave for Georgia this week. I’m so humbled and thankful for each and every one of you. 🥹

Checked out of my school for the last time after 20 years. Lots of emotions as I cleaned out room 223 and headed home to organize for my move to a new state and a new classroom in about a week.
