Two kings on a hunt... Each with a different goal

🦌
Two characters from the book Queen Margot, the king of France Charles IX and the king of Navarre Henry. They’re wearing 16th century clothes in a red palette. Both characters are holding their weapon, an arquebus for Charles and a dagger for Henry. Charles smiles lovingly at him, clinging to his arm while Henry’s face is more neutral. They’re looking at each other despite avoiding each other’s eyes. These weapons were used in the book either to threaten (Charles threatened Henry with the arquebus) or to save ( Henry saved Charles’ life with his dagger). Despite everything, Charles is looking for Henry’s affection and loyalty while Henry has views on his throne. They’re definitely not hunting the same thing.

A small scene from Queen Margot

(Charles IX forcing Henry, king of Navarre, to convert to catholicism to escape the St Bartholomew massacre)
This is a comic illustrating a small scene from the book Queen Margot from Dumas. King Charles IX of France retains king Henry of Navarre in his appartements and tries to force him to convert to catholicism after ordering the St Bartholomew massacre. The room is lit from the fires in the city, making the page look red.
"You have to understand me, Henriot!" Asks the king. "I understand, sire." Replies Henry.
"Well ?"
"Well, sire", I do not see why the king of Navarre should not do what so many gentlemen and poor folks have done. For if they all die, poor unfortunates, it is because the same terms have been proposed to them which your Majesty proposes to me, and they have refused, as I refuse."
Charle's expression changes into a fierce and savage one.
"What!" Yells Charles, gripping his arm. "Do you believe that I have taken the troubles to offer the mass to those whose throats we are cutting yonder?"

Woops sorry my brain is fried 😂 thank you!

I don't think I've said anything here about it but I'm very passionate about checking every black legend about the St Bartholomew time period so I'm aware of Dumas' twists and it's very fun (although the story is horribly cruel) to research

I put the english traduction of the scene in the alt if you want to know what they're saying

C'est fou à quel point je pourrais absolument pas tenir un persona d'artiste sérieux et mystérieux parce que quiconque a eu la malchance de me parler sait à quel point j'obsess sur : tout et je fais : n'importe quoi

Lost your paw, white rabbit ?
An illustration of my vampire oc Gigi (Virgil) again ! He’s standing and looking directly at us, an empty bottle of wine in his right (skeletal) hand and an old biker helmet in his left arm. His motorbike is right behind him, while the symbol of the three rabbits (Tinners’ rabbits) is right upon him. This visual riddle suits his rebellious, elder (immortal) non binary butt. A rabbit paw is supposed to bring luck- I suppose it’s not the case for the rabbit in question…

Charles and Acteon, from Queen Margot
An illustration of Charles and his dog Acteon from Queen Margot (Dumas). This scene is pretty awful as the king, Charles, discovers his dog (his best friend) has been poisoned and has died trying to comfort itself by cuddling an object belonging to him. He’s holding his dead dog close to him, enraged but unable to scream and realizing he’s also going to die from the same thing.

Unfortunately feeling the need to draw more sad dogs again

im gonna be honest kitten whiskers daddy's extremely tired and not very fond of their own art (which is both annoying and 100% mine to fix)

I sincerely missed that aspect of art of drawing just because I want to and because it's fun but I'm afraid I'll get back to The Shame soon enough
