For my two cents, it's always been a personal pet peeve in anime (and J-games) when how food/eating is shown on screen is so sacrosanct. Almost *always* displayed pristine, and almost *always* delicious.
Which is why it delights me when shows like Gurren Lagann lampoon it to great comedic effect.
