Its all about monopolies really. Audible is so engrained as THE audionarrative platform that most will never consider an alternate. So they can offer criminally low rates to creators.

I dare not calculate how much we'd have made in the last five years if Audible paid 50% instead of 13%

For Sojourn this is not new. The appalling state of affairs regarding Amazon Audible I discussed on Spacedock years ago has not changed at all, and has worsened by many efforts to force AI Scraping on creators.

Being as expensive as it is to produce, Sojourn has never had a prayer without Patreon.

I am infinitely grateful to our Patrons, without whom Sojourn would cease to exist overnight.

But it should not be this way. Authors getting single-digit percentages of their sales revenue from corporate storefronts and audiences having to pick up the slack is a deeply unnatural state of affairs.

I remember when Patreon first came along as a way to basically tip your favourite YouTubers and give them a little extra.

We've now reached the point where audience members pledging on Patreon to keep their favourite projects alive is a baseline assumption, not a bonus.
