Criticism to the judiciary “is not new to this administration. The volume and the rhetoric that’s attendant to it is new,” said Judge O’Grady. “I don’t want you to believe that this is all brand new, it’s continuing rhetoric that now has reached levels that are unprecedented.”
“Part of that danger arises from the kind of rhetoric, unwarranted, in the criticism of judges and the name-calling that could lead people in the country to think that it really is an us-against the-judges kind of thing,” said Judge Davis.
“We know we have in our society, people who are easily driven to action by political rhetoric, so that creates a danger for judges,” said Judge Cindrich. “But in the end, the biggest threat to the future of the Republic is none of that. It is we, the people. It is apathy.”
