I regularly have crises where I think I should pack it all in and give up on selling art. Posting the favourite things I have shaped and glazed and fired during my practice really helps cheer me up on the bad days. No matter what I will keep making art even if I do it badly and inconsistently.

Posting photos of myself will not be frequent on this account but I’m pretty proud of this tattoo I got. Symbolizing the first decade of my life, surrounded by fields of grain, daughter of farmers

Hey, I’m Keira and I make things!
I’m working on posting highlights of the last few years of making ceramics and assemblage.

I did a series of mini-wreaths with dried florals for my Christmas open house in 2022. Coffee clay wreaths and dried florals from my garden, lichen and mosses from my parent’s cottage in the Whiteshell. They were a big hit.

Pit-fired natural wild clay miniature pinch pot vase with rose hips and grasses. Textured with crayfish claws from Clear Lake. 100% Manitoban piece. I made this and other pit-fired pieces at an art camp held by Arts West and I was taught this process by the fabulous Charlene Brown.

Coffee clay bird skull sculptures, 2022. First iteration of these was in 2018/2019 using terracotta clay and clear glaze. I’ve since made them with three other types of clay including porcelains. I love every look.

Words have betrayed me and my mind has escaped its borders in the past and devastated my sense of self, but I won’t stand by and watch the world burn without defending those I love. Trans lives matter. Immigrants matter. Facts matter. Science is “a candle in the dark”. 3/3

Form, colour, shape and shadow are my playground. Abstraction is rest for my busy brain. To be more direct can insult my need for broad connection, narrowing my audience. I also lack the technical skills to bring specific visions to life. Now however is not a time to be a quiet artist. 2/3

I am not particularly strong or brave. My mind has always swooped like crows on the currents, playing with possibility. I envision futures with ease. The land of imagination has always appealed to me more than reality. Art is where I found an intersection to GET THINGS DONE. 1/3
