Just finished John Williams’s novel “Stoner” about the ups and downs of a man, William Stoner, whose dirt-poor farming parents send him to college to get an agricultural degree but who gets sidetracked by literature. What a terrific novel. Can’t believe I hadn’t come across it before now.

South Fork Boise River below Anderson Ranch Dam, early December. On some December days it can be quite pleasant on the river when the sun enters the canyon, but on this day a cold wind coming up the canyon made it feel like winter. Still, another great day of fishing, though not much catching.

His, or her, nest blew down during the winter. After pondering the situation awhile, this osprey started rebuilding. Near Cascade, Idaho, early April.

Glad to see this. I was subpoenaed twice by Ammon Bundy concerning my work at the Statehouse. I’m not sure how much The Associated Press, my employer, spent fighting the subpoenas. Needless to say, I wouldn’t have testified regardless. #idleg

This is my indoor trainer/Zwift racing bike. But one of these days I’ll take it out on the road and leave my carbon fiber bike in the garage.

Photos of Calle Zacateros in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, taken nearly 70 years apart. It would be fun to spend a day in 1950s San Miguel de Allende. Or 1850s. But come back to the present for dinner.

Found this at the ruins of a hacienda in central Mexico. You just never know.

I like places that take their no smoking (no fumar) policy seriously.

The Western Idaho Fly Fishing Expo starts today and goes through Saturday. I’m awaiting a presentation on the Salmon River. A lot of other good presentations lined up as well along with booths and casting ponds. Should be a good one. If you go, you need $15 cash to get.

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game opened its new headquarters in Boise three years ago, but this is the first time I’ve been there. Very impressive. A lot of animal mounts and art.

Ah, yes. When kids ride in your vehicle. I kinda like it. An original work. I’m going to leave it.

Yesterday we visited the James Castle House, the museum in Boise named after the artist who lived there. He has long been described as deaf and mute, but more recent theories involve visually gifted autism, which seems more plausible. Maybe he had some of both. (1)

Amalgamated Sugar Company in Nampa processing sugar beats. In 2020, Idaho produced about 20% of the nations sugar beats. Nampa has a bit of an apocalyptic feel at the moment, though, with all the haze.
