I yearn for the stars
It is done!!

Mostly. I still have to attach the emblem, hood handle, and latch to it, but it's all buffed and polished.

Not entirely sure on what I should do next, but I'm thinking I should remove the upholstery.

I'm planning stripping the car before rebuilding it.

I had hoped to get buffing and polishing done today as well but the clear coat was being stubborn. That task will have to be done tomorrow.

I wet sanded using 1500 grit followed by 3000 grit on the hood to smooth out the clear coat allowing for a smooth gloss when polished.

I present to you...

A painted and cleared hood! :D

Ow. My feet. T~T

Color and clear coat! So shiny~

For the color, to make sure I can do both sides, I went two layers of similar colored paint and one layer of the final paint. After that we did about 2-3 layers of clear coat.

Textured by my teacher after I left Thursday. I hope to be finished with the hood by the end of this week.

Sanded the underside with 320 with plans to texture it to hide the little dents. Not sure why there are lines, but probably not important in the grand scheme of things.

So, the paint I bought is a quart of PRE-REDUCED paint... It did not say ANYWHERE on the page that it was pre-reduced. You want to know where the info was put? In the FAQ.

So now I have a LOT less paint than I thought I would and now I have to get a bit creative when it comes to paint use. >:c

Went ahead and worked on the hood handle while unsure what to do next. It was an absolute pain to get out the metal piece and it's largely covered in rust. The chrome being ok, just some rust stains on the inside.

The fire has been lit as I only have 9 days left to finish.

With wet sanding done, instead of sealing, I'm apparently switching to the underside. I totally didn't forget the underside 👀

Just finished sanding with 180 and should be moving onto wet sanding tomorrow! The paint for the hood should be arriving this Thursday which means I can paint the hood next Tuesday.

If I'm done with the hood before Thursday this week I'm not sure what I'll do while waiting in the meantime.

And it is primed! Starting next week it's sanding time... Again... First dry sanding with 180 grit, then wet sanding with 400 grit. Hopefully after that I can seal it and then paint it. Though the paint may have to wait if it doesn't get here before then.

Just finished up with the glazing putty and bondo and now it's time to put a second layer of primer. :D

End of day progress! I'll have to add another layer of Bondo to the right side of the large spot and the most right spot. Otherwise, I'm done for the day!

Glazing putty! After first break I'll be sanding with 80 grit to knock down some of the thickness before going over a little with 180 grit. After that is second layer of primer time!

I finished up sanding today with several dents (circled in red) that I need to fix. I plan to use glazing putty to cover them.

On May 8th, I worked on sanding the primer down using 180 grit and a DA but was losing the will to continue that day so I switched to polishing up the emblem.

On May 7th, I added the acid etch and the primer.

On May 6th, I was able to strip the entirety of the topside before going over with 80 grit so the acid etch and primer would have better adhesion.

On May 5th, I was able to get most of the rust removed except for the little divots that I couldn't get my device into. I then figured out as to why I was having so much trouble removing the paint. I just needed to exchange the paper out for a new one.

May 1st began the stripping of paint on the topside revealing huge rust spots on the passenger side with smaller ones on the driver side. This was where I left it for the day after some frustration at the paint not coming off.

On April 30th I finished up the underside with an interesting reveal that the hood used to be a dark green at one point. It was soon revealed that the front end of the car had been replaced at one point which would explain why the hood would have been green.

On April 21st I finally started working on the underside of the hood after removing the emblem and the hood handle. Using a DA (Dual Action Sander) with 320 grit sandpaper I sanded the large area before calling it quits for the day.

I started with the restoration of the hood which had a fun secret of a colony of ants! That took about a week for them to finally die out before I could really start sanding and paint stripping.
