THIS.

This is why we're reading Radical Mindfulness: Why Transforming Fear of Death is Politically Vital.

Death denial and the fear of death are absolutely related to systems of oppression and supremacy.

Our first gathering was an engaging, tender affair, with both interesting discussion of the content and heart-open sharing.
You can still join the conversation!

We'll go slow as needed, stop to breath or stretch, and make use of breakout rooms if anyone needs a private moment with one of the facilitators.

Hi A.C.! This is a reading group that will be reading Radical Mindfulness: Why Transforming Fear of Death is Politically Vital.

More relevant now than we might like, it explores how our fear of death & uncertainty shapes behaviour.

The text isn't heavy per se, but the times are. (con't)

Or- here me out- a mindfulness practice.

I mean, we could at least TRY.
Comment: I'm not saying it would fix everything but I would feel slightly better if I had an enchanted sword

Mindfulness Informed End of Life is a transformative, scholarly, heart-centred approach to dying...and it's in its last year at the University of Toronto.

I HIGHLY recommend this program.

I was at the cottage last month and my own copy of Radical Mindfulness was defiled by racoons, after also destroying (and eating!) a box of chocolates. You can't really see in this image, but there are tiny claw marks on the cover and chocolately paw marks on the pages.

And you all: I really don’t think there is a way out of it- it is mandatory, inevitable, absolutely required at this crossroads for survival

If you are all “Why bother?” about community/group work I encourage you to attend this upcoming discussion with Dr Deserie Charles:

My work in mindfulness + end-of-life follows in some follows the greats. Think The Tibetan Book of the Dead, the writing of Dr. James Carse, the clinical work of Dr. Michele Chaban, and now James Rowe, author of Radical Mindfulness.

The skills for deathcare are deeply human rather than technical.

@georgetakei.bsky.social and @bradtakei.bsky.social, maybe you'll join us!

A baby step towards dismantling systems of injustice and oppression, but the community care is a hell yes.
