James writes that “faith without works is dead”; he is describing reality that when good works are not evident, saving faith is lacking. Sola fide refers to the idea that works themselves are not the basis of salvation. Understanding the gift, we should seek to honor it with our lives.

I’d also be interested to know which part you think I made up. I’m glad to share my sources.

In Matthew: “21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.”

No, I am not Baptist. I am Lutheran. That so many people do not even know the basic gospel message is an indication of the corruption in churches that seek to control and oppress rather than preach the grace and freedom God offers.

Yes, I have. They are work righteous. Relying on works to save us is a dangerous spiritual position. Ephesians explains, “8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.”

What mechanisms do you propose to use to stop this abuse of power? Can we avoid violent, armed insurrection? The right attempted such insurrection against the systems and symbols of democracy. I fear we are going to need to be as bold. God help us.

Christianity is based on the idea that no one is good. That’s why we need Jesus. Realizing the gift of grace, we then strive to serve God and our neighbors in our words, attitudes, and actions. I have no defense, therefore, for “Christianity” that oppresses or demeans others.

Communities vary, so this isn’t valid everywhere. Ostensibly, getting permits and making plans with local law enforcement reduces legitimate legal or other backlash. As fascism increases, all bets will be off as to whether anything can be done to protest safely, but for now, use legit channels.

From Monticello: “We have not found any evidence that Thomas Jefferson said or wrote, "When government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny," nor any evidence that he wrote its listed variations.”

Teacher here: AI has limited usefulness because its output is often wrong or otherwise provides poor examples. It saves some time getting started with a lesson or exercise, but there is still work required to make it useable. A teacher still has to know what they’re doing.

We have a government agency that approved, treatments based on analysis of research. If someone competent were in charge of it and its resources weren’t being slashed. There were also many government grants that could have bypassed big Pharma. Can you see how common sense seems absent?
June 20, 2025 at 11:05 AM
It’s impossible to have a common sense discussion with people who live in a world of false facts. For instance, you believe that science is political, and medical professionals make decisions based on personal beliefs and agendas. You also believe that the government should control people’s bodies.

Most of us wouldn’t report NPS for factual history, and those who would are proud of their racism & oppression. So, they read about what happened at Manzanar and think, not “What a horrible thing to suspend human rights,” but “hmm…maybe we could reopen Manzanar to house modern political enemies.”

What about that guy who demanded an apology of that Reverend at the National Cathedral who admonished him publicly and encouraged Christian love and compassion? Somebody should definitely report him.

I’m wondering if it is like people who claim DEI and wokeness perpetuates racism—taking a word (human rights) and twisting its meaning. But that’s not exactly it either.

Resentment and anger becoming attempt to destroy. Although I would hope that the region would embrace their status as the originating location of the major world religions and become a place that models peace and reconciliation, realistically, that is incredibly unlikely. Mistrust and hatred rule.

Also, thank you for the longer explanation, I needed a Saturday morning to think about it before responding. I see the creation of Israel was a result of decisions imposed by the international community on the region; perhaps the Arab countries could have been persuaded to cooperate, not sabotage.

I am critical of the conditions under which the State of Israel was created, sympathetic to perspective of Palestinians that they were robbed of land & are treated as second class people. I also hope that Israel is here to stay. I don’t understand how a plea based on human rights is anti-Semitic.

When did I encourage genocide?
April 3, 2025 at 10:30 PM
There’s just so much generational trauma and mistrust that a peaceful resolution to the conflict seems nearly impossible. Can you imagine if both sides could come to the table, honor each others’ humanity and right to live in peace? One extreme group or another always seems intent on disruption.

I know you feel personally attacked, and so attack my knowledge though you know nothing about me or my qualifications. You are explaining that there is a longer conversation occurring that I have not been privy to. I hear you. Have a great day.
