Greetings from Lugdunum.

When I say I’ve been looking forward to this for months. Finally time for Much Ado with Tom Hiddleston and Hayley Atwell.

One of the best parts of walking around London is seeing scattered ruins mixed in with modern architecture. The Elsyng Spital Church Tower is a remnant of a hospital (more like an almshouse) built almost 700 years ago.

Slightly distressed to say that the emo culture/tech scene from my high school and uni era is now part of a legit exhibition. It’s on for another couple of weeks at the Barbican if you’re in London and feeling nostalgic.

I’m in the mosque. I’m in the cathedral. I’m in the mosque-cathedral. Ticking one off the bucket list in Cordoba.

It’s pretty nice out in Cordoba today.

Hello from Cordoba, where most stuff is shut for Epiphany but the weather is beautiful.

First holiday of 2025 is underway.

Also, these covers, man. The D-Day Iliad cover gave me chills when I read it at uni ~16 years ago and it still does.

A concert at the Barbican in London featuring the music of John Williams. A post-Christmas treat.

This is all leading up to the Chiefs winning their third straight Super Bowl when someone miraculously recreates the Sanchez butt fumble.

We went to the London Batman exhibit today and they included the Lego Batman head in a display with the rest of the movie cowls. Worth the admission tbh.

At Covent Garden for an exhibit and it’s beautifully decorated for Christmas but lol no one seems to have a clue where they are, how they got here or where they’re going.

Rec for my historical nonfiction-loving friends: I’m having a blast reading @bettanyhughes.bsky.social book on the Seven Wonders. Hits on so much interesting context: climate change, agriculture, religion, military history, gender roles, etymology, and of course architecture.

Was in the University Daily Kansan newsroom the night this happened in ‘08. Everyone yelled, celebrated and, when it was over, put out the next day’s paper. Rock chalk.

A lot of pushback against this is from content creators/influencers mad at what this might mean for their business. Speaking for myself, that’s the whole point: What makes Threads insufferable is the brand/influencer humble-bragging/engagement farming bullshit.
