They already waived Tomasino, so they just have to option him. If Brunicke does the AHL conditioning stint, that opens up two roster spots.

The 40-game mark is games played by the team, not the player. If they both remain on the team past that date, they'll lose a year of RFA.
And, yes, but I do think if they send him on the conditioning stint and loan him to the WJC, those will basically be second tryouts to stay the rest of the year.

I mean, there's only so much they can do about that.
They lose a year of restricted free agency regardless for both him and Kindel starting Jan. 3, if they're both still on the NHL roster.
They can't really "manipulate" that. The 10 games is about his ELC/waivers, not losing a year of team control
