Listen. I didn’t get into grad school the first time I applied because they said they liked to reserve spots for international students. You know what I realized? My essay wasn’t very good and I should probably have a clearer idea of what I actually wanted to study.

This is a HUGE part of how I’m learning to support my son: that his brain is entering a survival state, and helping him get to a safe state is more important than him putting on his coat or getting somewhere on time.

I’m sure it is, as much as it is *not* part of the thinking to say, “hmm, if I actually am the best, wouldn’t I have the best? Or do I not have the best because I’m actually not all that great?”
