Northampton based SWFC season ticket holder, LCCC, cyclist. Used to disappointment, which is just as well at this point in history.
Only in TV period dramas.

They no longer seem to do spicy tomato flavour which was always my favourite.

Good and fair article. But MK is a cycling paradise compared with Northampton 20 miles up the road.

The article mentions "fight[ing] for more regulation". There is already regulation, but no enforcement. Like others, from my own experience, the problem is with illegal electric motorbikes rather than e-bikes and I despair at news outlets not making the distinction.

In West Northants the previous council was a Conservative majority with stone age views on travel, so no change to policy with Reform. But even here there is some historic infrastructure that they will be afraid to change.

When I first moved to the South East I spent a few months in Harold Wood, and what struck me most was the sense of isolation living between the A12 and A127. Plus the huge amount of time it took to drive anywhere. Good train services though.

So I voted for you and you aren't on my side as a pedestrian/cyclist/train passenger? Why are drivers a special case?

Yes, I see a lot of social media posts linking our rubbish strewn streets to immigration. Food for thought.

In Northampton we have a council who are hostile to investing in active travel. The scooter hire scheme gives the illusion of "green" transport policy with minimal investment. As the roads are dangerous the scooters are often ridden on pavements.
