There will be about 3 dozen tikis for sale this year at BLFC. Each one is different and one of a kind as I experiment with slip, glazes, underglazes, and special effects. Prices will vary as well, from $65 up to $130 so there will be something for everyone.

I'd recommend starting with a small, simple mold like a bowl or tea cup to get used to the process. But yeah I wanna see what you come up with!

Vantikistudio on YouTube is a fantastic source for slipcasting info. For my mold I made it in 4 sections plus the bottom due to the details and wanting to avoid undercuts. If you're making something that's tapered, wider at the top than the bottom, you can maybe use a 1 part mold.

The gay crime dog is back, this time on Imco stoneware 1c clay. Interesting fact about that clay: the spot where it's being harvested is changing composition, so the clay is no longer ^6, it has creeped up to ^8! Nature/geology is wild.
A brown clay mug with a black dog and a speech bubble saying be gay do crimes, there is rainbow glaze on the top dripping down.

The first of the tiger tikis emerged from the kiln. I've been having so much fun trying out glazes and playing with different looks. I'm hoping to have 12 for BLFC and a lot more of the monster tikis.
Two black tikis on a white background, the left has blue inlaid, and the right has green inlaid . Two tiger tikis on a white background. The left is a mottled blue and green mug and the right is a pinkish orange color. Two monster faced tikis on a white background. The left has globby orange glaze oozing down its face, orange swirl eyes, purple nose, bright red mouth with black dripping lips. The right has red glaze oozing off the top with red eyes and nose, and yellow swirls at the bottom.

I've been underglazing all day and putting way too much detail into these. I still have a ways to go, but these will be the fanciest of the tigers. Lovingly hand-painted by a dragon that doesn't know how to keep it simple. I may attempt one or two more before BLFC.
Three tiger faced tikis, the left is mostly white with some green, the middle is your typical orange tiger, and the right is shades of blue. They kinda look like pillars which is pretty neat.

Here is the after! All mushies kept in the same position for comparison. I think I want to make a lot more.
11 spotted, colorful mushrooms and one tiny green mug.

Some more mugs are coming out of the kiln. I love the transformation that happens. My online shop is paused while I build up inventory for Blfc. There's going to be so much new and fun stuff that I'm making. Design by @mongrelist.bsky.social They and I have made such cool stuff together!
Monster mug with glaze before firing. Monster mug after firing. Even the black clay looks glossy, probably due to the Mason stain I used to color it.

I'm always trying out new glazes and glaze combos. This batch of mushrooms looks like cupcakes to me. I can't wait to see what these glazes do.

A quick painting I did for my coworker who *loves* birds. Also plays Wingspan once a week. This is a Jambu fruit dove according to pinterest. Acrylic on paper, I made the frame a while back.
A tiny painting in my hand. The farther away it is the better it looks!

Oh gosh space is such an issue yeah! My garage is so full with art supplies. Such is life for the potter.

I second Laguna B mix, I've seen folks make large flat hand built platters with it, tiny sculptures, big sculptures, throwing with it. Yeah it's about $30 in my area. Worth it imo.

I hear Vevor has decent first-time wheels that are pretty affordable. That wheel you have looks pretty nice for trimming and detail work. Can you throw mini pots on it?

The last of the tumblers I threw a while back. I'm experimenting more with Mayco Stroke n' Coat glazes because of the color range, and it's interesting to see how they run. There's the clay body to factor in, the angle of the piece, if it's layered over other glazes, just so much tinkering to do.
An orange clay tumbler with drippy blue glaze at the top against a dark reddish brown table. A speckled yellow clay tumbler with rainbow glaze at the top, but the red ran over most of the other colors but still looks pretty neat. A yellow speckled clay tumbler with purple, pink, and yellow glaze looking like sad pastel rainbows and raindrops. Glazing is hard this isn't too bad all things considering but I still wish it was better.

Thank you! I've yet to stray beyond a basic cylinder shape, but maybe in the future.

It has to be as perfect as possible because any bump or scratch or lazily done part I will have to clean up every single time. I used very cold water when making the plaster mixture, which gave me a lot of working time comparatively, so that was nice. Now to demold part of it and do it 4 more times!

This is the most skill/labor intensive part of mold making, the actual plaster casting. Yes I ise my bats as the mold shape; I hot glue them together, Reinforce things with clay and pour the plaster. Cleaning up the edges takes care and I hope I lined things up for a symmetrical mold.
