Opinions are my own, and skeeter-deleter'd every month of so.
Once they've stopped I'm all for the look and polite wave. Gotta be nice to people and all. Like with the cashier though, you thank them after they've done the legally required thing, not stand off to the side while they ring in other customers in the hopes they might decide to give you your change.

I should add that this is not my strategy in places where the driver might not clearly see me. Like, for example, if they're turning right, I'm on their right, and they're looking left. Then I will stop and wait.

I don't think we actually disagree. I'm absolutely not suggesting anyone step in front of a moving vehicle if they're not confident that the vehicle will stop. If eye contact helps you do that, great. I've just personally found that peripherally watching the vehicle like a hawk works better for me.
December 16, 2025 at 3:02 PM
Agreed. Never make eye contact. It psychologically asks the driver for permission to use 'their road', and tells them their decision to allow it is optional. Instead walk out like you don't know cars exist, while using your peripheral vision to be ready in case one of those jerks tries to kill you.

I'd say that not encouraging Canadians to join and support that platform is exactly the right priorities.

Government information should be open to everyone, not sandwiched between Nazi posts on some dark-web American controlled platform.

I think the point is that then they wouldn't be called steering wheels—because they're not wheel-shaped—and we'd be equally confused at why people were calling the new experimental round ones by the old 'steering rectangular prism' name.

I think perhaps I wasn't clear. We can and should require vaccination in Canada. We should not allow the freedom to spread disease, just like how we don't allow the freedom to drive while intoxicated. Both put others at unacceptable risk.

Other democracies already have these requirements.
December 12, 2025 at 2:34 PM
Democracy doesn't mean unlimited freedoms. Other democracies already required vaccinations, and almost 70% are in favour of it here.

Even better are those new ones filled with a non-newtonian fluid that are only solid if you're speeding

I could have maybe believed it was a 'rogue administration' in 2016, but not anymore. This is not a rogue administration, it's one doing exactly what a staggering number of voters want it to do.

The battery isn't the fossil fuels though, it's the fuel tank for the electrons, so your original question doesn't really make sense.
December 5, 2025 at 2:07 PM
I hear you. That's how I understood it. I just question the logic of that decision. Beyond just aiding in countless 'oops no WMDs here afterall' and war crimes, does it make to give them weapons they might use against us.
December 4, 2025 at 6:10 PM
I'd hope our economy isn't entirely propped up by selling to the US Military, but 🤷.

Maybe you just have to spin it right. They want to encourage more local manufacturing already.

And is it really smart to sell weapons to someone so they don't use weapons against you?
December 4, 2025 at 5:59 PM
Standard business, sure (for now, provided the annexation talk stays talk), but we're long overdue to reevaluate our export controls of military equipment to the US.
December 3, 2025 at 12:25 PM
You truly believe they could sell these to North Korea if they wanted?

I'd suggest reading more in to our export controls. We (Canadian) are not powerless to stop this.

He says it wasn't on his brain, so 100% guaranteed it was on his brain.
December 1, 2025 at 1:18 AM
I'm sorry, what you're asking for is impossible. There exists no "I'm from country X" authoritative ID. Even is there was, without it being tied to an individual it could just be given away.
November 28, 2025 at 3:21 AM
Oppressive regimes can easily have their messages appear from anywhere. It's easy for them to get a residential connection in any country. And only one way does the poster get disappeared, so 'both ways' isn't valid.

You didn't answer though. You're happy to require your passport to use bsky?
November 28, 2025 at 1:18 AM
I personally don't see how. It's easy to 'be' from anywhere on the internet. Do you really want to provide your passport to post on bsky?

Even if we could I don't think we should. It would then become a very useful tool for oppressive regimes to search for '<said bad thing> + <from here>'.
November 27, 2025 at 9:47 PM
None of that works though. For example I can make my GPS say I'm wherever I like.

Instead it'll make life harder for people in repressive regimes while adding like half a days work to state funded disinformation groups.
November 27, 2025 at 3:16 PM
How do you perceive this being accomplished/enforced?

The X thing is a nice party trick for actors with poor opsec, but it's value will very quickly drop to zero as they adjust to use the proper app-store when installing the app.

You can start with looking at Canada and the EU countries.

Now for you list of 'most' they don't allow convicted criminals to vote?

Please don't spread disinformation. Most democracies either don't limit at all, or minimally limit, the voting rights of their citizens. The idea that you should lose the right to vote against the very people writing the laws (and responsible for prison conditions) is frankly absurd.
November 21, 2025 at 3:36 PM
To make sure I've got this right, this group is dedicated to help people break traffic laws?
