Playwright and vite-browser mode built their own version of Testing Library directly into their respective frameworks so that's what I recommend people use now.

I've not been involved for a few years, but I'm pretty sure DOM Testing Library and React Testing Library are still actively maintained primarily by @sebbie.dev
