Today is the twenty-fifth anniversary of the launch of Expedition 1 from Baikonur cosmodrome to the ISS, marking the last day in history that every human was on earth.

Since then, the human population of #space has been non-zero.
The International Space Station, as seen from Space Shuttle Atlantis during STS-132 in 2010, set against a background of a bright blue Earth, and the darkness of space.

a photograph from some style magazine circa approximately 1969. it depicts a tremendously stylish kitchen decorated in the style of seventies futurism, with countertops and floors in gleaming white and cabinet fronts stained bright green. there are green plants, a bright green island with a stove and bright green accessories on it, below a bright green light fixture, and a bar stocked with liquor. behind the kitchen and bar is a row of windows with bright green blinds and a bright green door which opens into an outdoor space where, on a gleaming white floor, stands a bright green Porsche 911. whoever designed this space should share their drugs with me, I could enjoy this and they've clearly already had plenty.

I didn’t watch the original series much back then after that, and am still righteously indignant about the spelling bee, but when TNG came out I loved it hard and watched every episode.

A so-crappy-it's-actually-awesome "painting" of three malamutes with their heads tilted back, howling, and a full moon. It's titled "Three Wolf Moon" and was rather internet-famous for a while in 2008. One can probably still buy t-shirts of it. Millennials who remember this and also think that gen-z's skibidi ohio online culture is weird should gaze upon it and consider the implications.

A cracked and crazed grey plastic sign that apparently used to be a map. It is dirty, it is peeling away from its wooden base revealing a few pine needles and a field of grey, rotting plywood beneath it, lichen is growing on it, and it probably hasn’t been a usable map since sometime in the twentieth century. Barely legible under the filth and lichen is a spot labeled “YOU ARE HERE”. I sure am, decaying map, I sure am.
