I'm not looking to justify this, but to acknowledge the flaws in the argument.
Similarly, I don't see why they'd be "roaming around constantly". Far more likely they would have taxi-style stands. Not like we'd be able to afford a trip for every item on our grocery lists.

If it's mostly autonomous vehicles, gridlock would largely be caused by human drivers who aren't on the mesh network and won't drive responsibly... so no real difference from today.
Right now though, still way too many variables for those things to be safe.
