The FAA has issued a launch license to Blue Origin for the inaugural New Glenn flight, expected no earlier than early January (pending the outcome of a static-fire test as soon as later this afternoon.)
FAA STATEMENT (Dec. 27, 2024) Today, the FAA issued a Part 450 commercial space launch license authorizing the first launch of the Blue Origin New Glenn vehicle. The FAA determined Blue Origin met all safety, environmental and other licensing requirements. “The FAA is committed to enabling the success of the U.S. commercial space transportation industry without compromising public safety,” said the Associate Administrator for Commercial Space Transportation Kelvin B. Coleman. “By working closely with Blue Origin, the FAA issued this new launch license well in advance of the statutory deadline for the historic maiden flight of New Glenn.” The license allows Blue Origin to conduct orbital missions from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida with the reusable New Glenn first stage landing on a barge in the Atlantic Ocean. It is valid for five years.

A merger between two galaxies, oriented vertically. The lower galaxy has a spiral shape, highlighted by red and orange filaments that swirl around its bright blue core. The upper galaxy is a lot more irregular, with its core slightly above that of the lower galaxy, but the surrounding red and orange gas scattered around it. The filaments are dotted with yellow star clusters. Faint yellow diffraction spikes appear in the middle. Background galaxies are scattered throughout the black background of space.

1st light on the Witch Head Nebula, just southeast of Orion near Rigel. 🔭🧪

This combines 4 hours of 3 min exposures at a wide angle from my Indiana backyard. No filter.

Conditions weren't ideal: some intermittent high-alt clouds, and a popular orbit for satellite constellations (look low).
