And then the story twists and turns on my favorite mystery thing, Real Basic Shit. Keep your ever more warped serial killers, your childhood trauma, your random killings. Give me murders that revolve around money, “I really fucking hate you,” fear of prison, corruption

Her dad wants her to marry this young lawyer he works with, the lawyer wants to marry her mostly to join her family, but business professor? She wants HIM. And this is despite a shady, scandalous family. They wed, but on their wedding night he gets a call, and vanishes.

Okay, so the daughter of a prominent lawyer has a meet cute with an academic in the new field of business management(!). He’s a little shy and awkward, but nice, and she has a slightly broken heart because her crush married one of her best friends.

Aw, you make me remember my Aunt Mary Jane who at the end of her life would quiz waiters about the garlic and could they leave it out. In New Jersey. In Italian restaurants.

You are not the only one, hence my citing humorless scold Christopher Kimball. I am glad I caught the no onion thing because 1) this is my main dish for the workweek and 2) I wanted a sub for the 1 Ottolenghi dish that can be made from pantry staples.

I saw a recipe online where you use onion plus bell pepper and carrots. That looks better. Will amend.

The flavoring is garlic, ginger, cilantro, turmeric, cumin seeds and red pepper flakes. That is not going to be enough to make it past the coconut milk.

Can cover the overdraft at least

Exactly! I’m a medical librarian with a free book cart with donations and I took out a lot of magazine subs last fall for the purpose of having them on my cart and spreading my values.

That’s like how Florence Crittendon has a special fund for Black girls’ hair supplies for the foster care kids in their programs.

Roast with sliced shallot, toss with lemon juice, goat cheese, and dried cherries.

You truly are an excellent dog parent/guardian.

I’m so sorry for you and Chloe. This is terrible.

This is Willa—she went to the other side in April aged around 16. We had 15 years together. She was very baby, had the silkiest fur, talked constantly, and demanded a Churu at 7pm every night. She ably served in the role of Senior Cat for the household.

Greatly appreciating my dad now. Born in 1941, when he found I was being sexually harassed as a 13 year old circa ‘88 he said the next time they said shit to me to hit them and not stop.

Even her dad trivializes it, calling the perpetrator “a little boy” and saying she was wrong to put hands on him but that the punishment was excessive. Hell no.
