Happy Hanukkah! This drawing by Rahel Szalit appeared in the German-Jewish newspaper Israelitisches Familienblatt in 1930 as an illustration to a short story by Sholem Aleichem.

The Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, permanent collection. I love how the paintings are arranged in “ensembles,” often with works by Modigliani or Matisse at the center.

Käthe Kollwitz at MoMA in New York. I learned that Kollwitz banished color from her work after 1905 in order to focus on socially critical subject matter.
