Autostede: Neon Badlands kickstarting this Easter
I've always seen OSR as a study of, "what if the rules didn't matter? What could we imbue meaning onto then?"

I'm always taken aback, though, when I don't profess to be having a wonderful Christmastime, and somehow I'm the grumpy asshole who's trying to ruin Christmas.
I don't mind if you want to have a merry christmas. But I'm not

I am aware this isn't necessarily the most common experience, so generally I keep to myself and keep out of the way of stressed parents who I'm sure are trying their best to recreate their childhood memories for their own kids.

I feel like this misconstrues what constitutes a game mechanic.

"Roll 2d6" isn't a game mechanic, it's a player action. It's a single act that has been divorced from its context, and in a particular context, for a particular purpose, 2d6 can be better or worse than 1d12.

I've been hearing that the new Digimon is better than both of them

I don't know if this is the correct stance, but I'm proud to call it an Illuminated game, and I am super grateful to Spencer Campbell for being the giant whose shoulders I could stand on to create something that, I think at least, is incredible. Thankyou. 6/6

So I added in the Illuminated by LUMEN graphic. I didn't hesitate and I don't regret it. It has evolved and morphed from its roots but those roots exist. The fact that it no longer looks like anything like Light actually doesn't bother me. I think it's a feature, not a bug. 5/?

I was suddenly hit with a flood of memories about discussions about people quoting their influences and the benefits of transparency when it came to the genetic history of games. Not only that but I feel LUMEN, like PbtA, is more of a vibe than a strict mechanical framework. A stance on design 4/?

At some point I had unconsciously decided that this game had evolved beyond being a LUMEN game. After seeing Spencer discussing game design and remembering the deep dives I was doing with earlier versions of the game, I pulled out the LUMEN SRD. 3/?

This is until I went to put together the final version to send to the printer. I went back over the digital file to make sure there were no glaring errors, and of course I have been over this file a thousand times so I didn't find anything. But I had seen a post from @gilarpgs.bsky.social 2/?
