Cranky 60+ guy in UK but follow US politics (worked there for a few years). Don't post much so don't expect to see them but I like replying, if it's worth the effort LOL
Shame I only found 2 people to block on this thread, the OP and 1 other

On the plus side you have hydro which UK can't get close to Canada's numbers. Plus UK stretches from roughly South 🇨🇦 up to Hudson Bay in latitude so solar isn't impossible.

Had something similar years ago. The alternator wasn't charging the battery, new alternator and it was fine. Maybe this helps?

EV's arent much sense on public chargers only. 95%+ of my charging is done at home on a low overnight rate, in UK so electric/gas costs are higher. I get an average of 260 miles range (220-300) for £5 ($6) @ 4.1m/kWh. Charging is 30 seconds, I plug it in when I get home and unplug in the morning.

I was bitching to myself the other day about my electricity bill. Then I realised my electric bill was also paying for all my car mileage and then I felt a lot better LOL

A friend of mine was an army PTI, one of the fittest and strongest (pound for pound) people I've known. He did boxing training and ended up doing a 3 round match and said it was the most physically demanding thing he'd ever done.

My town of 100k people has 3 of 5 of the majors (one has 2 stores) and all 5 of the small chains.
December 18, 2025 at 9:45 AM
The UK has 5 national major chains for groceries (Morrisons, Asda, Tesco, Waitrose, Sainsburys) and at least 5 budget/expensive/corner shop (Aldi, Lidl, Iceland, M&S, Spar) chains nationwide. I may have missed one?

6,000% lower isn't a thing, I would expect Forbes to understand English and math. Why not just say gun homicides are 6,000% higher in USA which would be correct but, obviously, look much worse for the so-called "greatest nation"

Damn, you're going to have a fit when you hear about the Reform party.

Republicans never care about the effects of their actions or words, until it happens to them.

What I will say is if you don't have home charging an EV doesn't make sense. An EV is more expensive and public chargers make charging around the same cost as petrol.
December 9, 2025 at 9:36 AM
Depends if you drive like an idiot. My front tires needed replacing at 24,000 miles, my rear ones are still fine at 30,000. My brake pads are still at 75% after 3 years and 30,000 miles.
December 9, 2025 at 9:33 AM
Costs me £5 to put 260 miles range on my EV (average, ranges from 220 - 300 depending on temperature). Overnight tariff at £0.08/kWh, 62 kWh battery @ 4 miles/kWh. I use home charging 96%+ of the time. On a 40mpg ICE car that works out around £36 compared to £5 FOR 260 miles.

I've had my Samsung A71 for nearly 5 years, pay £8 ($10)/month for a SIM only contract and I'll never understand why people keep paying massive amounts for a new phone every 2 years. Literally burning money to replace something that works perfectly well.
